Spooned & Spotted: WWE Booty Ho-Ho-O’s Cereal

WWE & The New Day's Booty Ho-Ho-O's Christmas Cereal for the Holidays – Box

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all ’round the ring, not a creature was suplexing: not even a mouse.

I don’t have the time nor the professional wrestling knowledge to finish that entire parody poem, but just know that it would’ve involved Santa dropping the People’s Elbow down the chimney.

For all the wrasslin’ fans in your life, WWE & The New Day have just released the most perfect and edible holiday gift imaginable. Well, aside from maybe a peanut butter-stuffed, chocolate Hulk Hogan statue. Get on that, Reese’s! It’s Booty Ho-Ho-O’s cereal, and it’s a Decemberized edition of Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods’ cult favorite Booty O’s cereal.

Now, my wrestling knowledge starts and ends with old YouTube videos of The Boogeyman eating worms. So as usual, I’ll defer to cereal ringmaster Gabe Fonseca’s Booty O’s explanation video to catch you up on the lore:

Speaking of Gabe, he generously provided the above photo of Booty Ho-Ho-O’s. I’m glad he bought a box, because this fully licensed cereal can run you anywhere from $11–$30, depending on whether you buy it from f.y.e. stores, the WWE store, eBay, or that shady fella behind the abandoned cinema who smells a little too much like stale Fudgsicles to be trusted about his Limited Edition cereal scalping prices.

According to Gabe, Booty Ho-Ho-O’s taste exactly the same as their less-merry ancestors, but they do include three reworked marshmallows: golden North Stars, chevron-shaped green Holiday Cheer, and cloudy purple Holiday Magic. These appear to just be Booty O’s’ old marbits renamed for the season, but something about the idea of eating raw, unadulterated holiday energy gets me unnecessarily excited anyway.

I want to carry around a bag of Holiday Cheer and Holiday Magic marbits to throw at every Grinch, Scrooge, and un-marshmallowed bowl of cereal I pass. Not even my leftover Count Chocula stockpile will be safe.

A big thanks to Gabe for sharing his picture. If you’d like to give us a photographic gift of your own, click yourself right on over to our submissions page, or just email us at cerealously.net@gmail.com. There’s a good chance your picture could be featured on the site.

Spooned & Spotted: “It’s Finally December” Edition

Kellogg's Rice Krispies with Holiday Colors Cereal Box 2016

For every buzz-worthy Christmas Crunch and Cinnamon Star Crunch, there are plenty of less-exciting, non-Crunch based limited edition products that make grocery shelves a little merrier from the rough period of November 1st to December 31st. So while the Cap’n and those cannibalistic stars will get plenty of time in the breakfast spotlight, I want to give a shoutout to two of the little guys.

Or in the case of Rice Krispies with Holiday Colors, three of the little guys. Snap, Crackle, and Pop’s annual offering of red and green-speckled Rice Krispies is back again for 2016, returning silently to breakfast aisles in the night like a rice-stuffed Christmas present.

That’s what the song “Silent Night” is all about, right?

I “reviewed” (translation: “played with”) Holiday Rice Krispies last year, and I encourage you all to use this cereal to make your holiday season a little holiday-ier. You could make candy cane-shaped Rice Krispies Treats like the box recommends, or you could cover a snowball entirely in Rice Krispies and chuckle as innocent passerby unknowingly bite into an Ice Krispies Treat.

Quaker's Holiday Limited Edition Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal Box

Quaker’s “Limited Edition” Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal may seem like a cop-out, as it’s just their (arguably) most famous flavor repackaged with a charming living room Christmas tree scene. I mean, they could have at least tossed in some pine nuts, right?

But I’m going to stay positive and express my love for this holiday oatmeal. I couldn’t imagine a more cozy, warm scene than the one Quaker lovingly immortalized here in cardboard. And they picked the perfect, warmly cozy flavor to pair it with.

This Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal is just ho-ho-wholesome, and I look forward to eating it from a novelty Rudolph mug while sprawled flat on my belly under my own tree. There’s a 100% chance I’ll be reading old Garfield comics while I do it, too.

Spooned & Spotted (Canada): General Mills Star Wars Boxes & Post Football Boxes

Canadian Star Wars Cheerios Box Darth Vader

“Hut, hut…Jabba the Hutt, hike!”

While America’s northern neighbors may not get a lot of the exclusive flavors we get in the States (I’m dedicating my Orange CreamPop Crunch box to you, Canada), they sure do get a lot of cool cereal package designs.

Take these bold Star Wars Cheerios boxes—presumably released in anticipation of this winter’s Rogue One—for example. While in the U.S., we merely got General Mills Mascots redesigned in Star Wars garb for The Force Awakens, Canadian breakfasters get to make eye contact with Darth Vader himself.

Canadian Star Wars Cheerios Box Stormtrooper

Now I just want to see Buzz the Bee face off against the Sith Lord. While my money’s on Anakin, Buzz’s wings do give him the higher ground.

But it isn’t just lightsabers that’ll be gracing Canadian kitchen tables. They get linebackers, too. Continue reading

Spooned & Spotted: Cap’n Crunch’s Christmas Crunch Cereal (2016)

Cap'n Crunch Christmas Crunch Cereal 2016 Box

(Update: My closer look at Christmas Crunch 2016 is here!)

“It’s just Crunchberries in different shapes. It’s just Crunchberries in different shapes. It’s just Crunchberries in different shapes.”

I can remind myself again and again that Cap’n Crunch’s annually released holiday cereal is the exact same as his year-round fare, just color filtered and molded into barely recognizable trees, snowmen, stars, and Santa hats. But every year, I just don’t care. Christmas Crunch’s yearly return always fills me to the brim with Yuletide merriment, and in a way, it’s a heralding angel of all the winter fun that’s soon to come.

I spotted the above cardboard igloo of Christmas Crunch boxes at my local Spartan store, but the light-bedecked Cap’n has also been spotted at Target and many other major stores.

The first thing that Christmas Crunch connoisseurs will notice is that we’ve got a brand new box design for 2016. This comes after what felt like 1,225 repeated iterations of that infamous gaudy red box. Of course, knowing the talented mind behind Cap’n Crunch’s illustration, I’m not at all surprised that this year’s Clark Griswoldian box is so mindblowing (and presumably fuse-blowing).

I want to do an annual re-review of Christmas Crunch right this very moment, throwing all Thanksgiving plans to the wind and blasting “Wonderful Christmastime” out my window with the intensity of a JG Wentworth commercial. But I know it’s too soon: if I review every holiday cereal so impulsively, I’d run out of seasonal content by Black Friday. And you really don’t want to see me spend December desperately trying to connect Raisin Bran to the holidays.

I’d imagine it involves sadness, a VHS copy of the SpongeBob Christmas special, and a lot of crushed up scented pinecones.

So look for a full review of Christmas Crunch 2016 in the coming month. For now, know that it’s out there and grab a box of your own for an early espresso shot of holiday cheer. And if you’d like to see your own picture or thoughts featured on Cerealously’s next “Spooned & Spotted” post, all you have to do is head over to our submissions page or email us at cerealously.net@gmail.com.

Spooned & Spotted: Cinnamon Star Crunch Cereal

(Update: We reviewed Cinnamon Star Crunch!)

It’s okay. Stars are cool, too. They’re certainly more Christmasy than any old squares—even deliciously buttered sugared squares!

Oh, it’s no use. I’m sitting here trying to justify General Mills’ apparent decision to replace Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch—a 2014-2015 cult classic loved by children, food reviewers, and probably adorable panda bears everywhere—with the grinning, quintuply pointed cinnamon corn puffs seen above. But I just can’t seem to do it. The only way star-shaped puffs could ever be better than Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch would be if General Mills decided to also reuse their shapes to revive Sprinkle Spangles.

I’d sacrifice a fresh batch of gingerbread men to bring back Sprinkle Spangles.

This exclusive sneak peek was provided by our friends over at Junk Banter, whose junk food news and reviews are always on point—or in this case, on all five points.

Junk Banter got this picture of Cinnamon Star Crunch, fresh off the truck and in the backroom of a Target. We can only assume that the cereal will hit shelves soon, likely in early November when the world’s pumpkins and Count Choculas begin their winter hibernation. But while we wait, let’s analyze what can.

This holiday cereal shift has been secretly occurring right beneath our cookie-loving noses for months: it turns out that General Mills filed their “Cinnamon Star Crunch” trademark way back in March. Cinnamon Star Crunch also uses the same packaging design as last year’s Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch iteration, and it also appears to diverge from the typical “Toast Crunch formula” of wheat and rice flour. I predict that cinnamon on corn will produce a dramatically different flavor than we know from Cinnamon Toast Crunch and that these repurposed SpongeBob Cereal pieces stars will soak up milk even faster.

Cinnamon Star Crunch Cereal Box

While this isn’t a complete confirmation that Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch won’t return for 2016, this back of the box image, also generously provided by the sleuths at Encyclopedia J. Banter, only shows Holiday Sprinkles Cookie Crisp as being a part of General Mills’ holiday ensemble. Holiday Sprinkles Cookie Crisp is great and all, but no number of sugar sparkles and awful winter puns can heal the broken heart left behind by an unexpected Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch breakup.

If you’re like me and Junk Banter—who is one of the few earthlings who loves Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch than me—and want to see those snowy, fresh-baked squares return, it’s worth rallying for them on social media.

Maybe we can even get the big man himself to support our cause:

Spooned & Spotted (Europe): Nestlé Lion Cereal

Nestlé Lion Cereal Box

Cerealously’s European readers are probably familiar with Lion Cereal, but hungry Americans like me are roaring with jealousy, because an entire Atlantic Ocean separates us from chocolatey, caramel-y breakfast happiness.

Longtime Spooned & Spotter Marc P. sent in the above photo of a Lion Cereal box he procured on a trip to Copenhagen, and if I could reach through the Internet and snatch a spoonful of it from him, you better believe I’d be elbow deep in my monitor right now.

Lion Cereal has been a European favorite since the early 2000s, when Nestlé introduced it as a loose cereal version of their classic Lion Bar, a wafered chocolate bar stuffed with crisped cereal and caramel. Lion Cereal contains chocolate and caramel-flavored crisps, too, which is a truly unique flavor that’s unheard of in American cereal aisles. I mean sure, you could mix Superman Cereal with Batman Cereal, blend Cap’n Crunch’s Caramel Popcorn Crunch with Chocolatey Crunch, or just crumble Chocolatey Caramel Pop-Tarts into a bowl with milk, but none of those have a beastly lion mascot.

Just moody superheroes, an old ship captain with eyebrows on his hat, and a trip to the dentist.

Hopefully I can find an international grocer around me that has Lion Cereal imported. Otherwise, I might just splurge and scour eBay for a box. This might be dangerous, though: if Lion Cereal is Europe’s best exclusive cereal and Oreo O’s are the cereal pride of Asia, then bringing both into the same household with Waffle Crisp—America’s best exclusive cereal—could bring too much talismanic cereal energy together in one place.

I’m just trying to eat a balanced breakfast here, not tear a hole in the space-time continuum.

A big thanks to Marc for sending in this photo. If you’d like to see your own picture or thoughts featured on Cerealously’s next “Spooned & Spotted” post, all you have to do is head over to our submissions page or email us at cerealously.net@gmail.com.

Spooned & Spotted: WWE Booty-O’s Cereal

WWE Booty-O's Cereal

Who? Who? Who is ready to elbow drop into a bowl of the first wrestling cereal since 1991’s WWF Superstars?

That’s right: The New Day’s once fictitious Booty O’s cereal is now 100% real and “made with 100% positivity.” It’s available at FYE stores and FYE’s website for “only” $12.99 a box.

The cartoonized trio of Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods appears on the front of every box, while dance move instructions and a unicorn cutout populate the side and back, respectively. Inside, the cereal itself consists of crunchy oat triangles and a superstar marshmallow ensemble of “magic,” smiles, tag titles, unicorn horns, booty crowns, rainbow hearts, and, well: actual stars.

The cereal’s colorful look sure ain’t booty, but how does it taste? We’re going to tag in cereal title belt champion Gabe Fonseca for this one. The latest video in his Cereal Time YouTube series takes an in-depth look at Booty-O’s, complete with a taste test.

As Gabe states, the cereal isn’t entirely like Lucky Charms: the chunky oat pyramids are much denser and less delicious delicious than the pillowy bits you’ll find in Lucky the Leprechaun’s breakfast of choice. Apparently they taste similar to Kellogg’s recent movie tie-in cereals, like Finding Dory Cereal.

I will say, though, that the oat pieces look an awful lot like cute little Triforces. So if we’re ever blessed with another Legend of Zelda cereal, I hope these shapes make a reappearance.

Preferably not in “Fruity Octorok Flavor.”

Spooned & Spotted: Nature Valley Maple Brown Sugar & Cinnamon Granola Crunch

Nature Valley Maple Brown Sugar Granola Crunch and Nature Valley Cinnamon Granola Crunch

If you haven’t heard, I’m now a born-again granola evangelist.

See, I once doubted that granola was right for me. It felt wrong to munch on sticky Aggro Crag chunks of oats and healthy protein while I sat criss-cross applesauce in front of a Nickelodeon Guts marathon. But then a wise granola sensei taught me that “it’s not about the nutrition destination: it’s about the cinnamon syrup-coated journey.”

Or maybe I just read that on the back of an ’80s Southern Comfort Cookbook in the 10-for-$1 bin at a Salvation Army. I can’t quite remember.

Regardless, I’m ready to start seeing other granolas again. And thankfully, Nature Valley has just pushed out these new Granola Crunch pouches. Each satchel comes in either Maple Brown Sugar or Cinnamon and promises to contain the equivalent of 21 Nature Valley granola bars.

Anyone who’s ever sat on a Nature Valley granola bar, left a Nature Valley granola bar in their pocket, or even looked at a Nature Valley granola bar for more than 5 seconds knows that those things love to explode into avalanches of microscopic crumbs, so I don’t doubt Nature Valley’s claim. They probably just stuffed 21 bars into each bag and said some rude words about them behind their back.

Poor Nature Valley granola bars: too fragile for this world.

New Chex Box Designs

Oh, and here’s a bonus Spooned & Spotted for those of you who tragically don’t follow Cerealously on Instagram. Chex cereals are starting to roll out new box designs, and these ones are way more aesthetically pleasing. Posting this photo of those geometrically crisp pieces probably just made my high school geometry teacher cheer out loud without even knowing why.

I spotted both all of these products at Kroger, but if you’ve seen or tasted something awesome, you can send your picture or thoughts and have them featured on a “Spooned & Spotted” post. All you have to do is head over to our submissions page or email us at cerealously.net@gmail.com.
