News: Honey Maid S’mores Cereal Keeps the Flame Alive

New Honey Maid S'mores Cereal with Madagascar and More

New Honey Maid S’mores Cereal (Left) with its Ancestors

Apparently cereal isn’t like baseball: there’s no “three s’mores and you’re out” policy.

Post, the Honey Bunch-slinging, Oreo O’s-reviving parent company of Malt-O-Meal, has announced that even after launching Madagascar S’mores Jungle Party, Canadian S’Mores Cereal, and Malt-O-Meal S’mores, they’ll be raising a toast(ed marshmallow) to one more graham–’mallow–chocolate cereal with new Honey Maid S’Mores Cereal.

Debuting this month (if not now in your local Walmart: check Post’s store locator) alongside a probably-far-more-popular-with-no-offense-to-s’mores-because-come-on-it’s-cookies-for-breakfast cereal, newly introduced Oreo O’s, Honey Maid S’mores combines ridged honey graham squares, chocolate puffs, and mini marshmallows to re-create everyone’s favorite campfire treat.

Well, almost everyone: I prefer roasting Cheez-Its for that extra extra toasty effect.

Though it’s unlikely that Honey Maid S’mores will taste any different than its breakfast aisle kinfolk, I’m sure I’ll still buy it anyway. If only so I can give my Teddy Grahams officially licensed honey graham surfboards to ride on.

Spooned & Spotted (Canada): Post S’Mores Cereal

Post S'MORES Cereal

Ready your pointed roasting sticks and start building some flaming marshmallow catapults, because the great S’More War might soon be upon us.

There are several s’mores flavored cereals out there, and thanks to Canadian cereal fan Jas A. (thanks for the photo, Jas!), we now know that Post has tossed their milk caps into the arena, too. Their creatively named “S’MORES” cereal follows the lead of Malt-O-Meal’s Madagascar S’Mores Jungle Party by combining Golden Grahams-esque ridged graham pieces with marshmallow orbs and chocolate corn puffs.

One might accuse Post of stealing MOM’s war plans, but in reality, the two have been allies for over a year. See, in early 2015, Post Foods bought Malt-O-Meal, meaning that this S’Mores cereal is likely just Madagascar S’Mores Jungle Party repackaged with English/French packaging so that Canada can share in the s’mores love.

So the s’mores cereal battlefield now features S’Mores Jungle Party and “S’MORES” facing off against Kellogg’s two pronged assault of Krave S’Mores and Smorz. This begs several questions:

Which side are you on? Which s’mores cereal melts your heart like a gooey marshmallow? Does Post S’Mores taste different than Madagascar? Will General Mills return to the fray after the long ago casualty of S’Mores Crunch? And most importantly, is Cap’n Crunch hiding a S’Mores Crunch of his own?

While we wait for the cocoa-scented dust to clear and for all these campfire-burning questions to be answered, you can send your own picture or thoughts and have them featured on a “Spooned & Spotted” post. All you have to do is head over to our submissions page or email us at cerealously.net@gmail.com.

And for hungry Canadians looking for their own Post S’Mores, Jas found this box at Canada Safeway.

Review: Golden Grahams S’Mores Treats

IMG_4603

It’s mid-April, and the last traces of winter are finally melting away. This means that summer, s’mores, subsequent spooky stories, and other things that start with “s” are on their way. So right after I track down that lying groundhog who predicted an early spring, I’m going to load up on graham crackers, chocolate bars, marshmallows, and first aid kits for inevitable 3rd degree burns caused by charred marshmallow magma.

But before I start up any campfires and make Smokey the Bear sweat nervously, I have to pre-game with as many s’mores favored snacks as possible. Last week I munched on the dreamy pillows of Krave S’Mores, so now it’s Golden Grahams’ turn.

Ordinarily, I could just add Cocoa Puffs and Lucky Charms marbits to a bowl of Golden Grahams and call it a day. But it’s an on-the-go kind of busy week, and I can’t carry around a portable torch to roast any marshmallows (I don’t have any angry mobs scheduled). Luckily, General Mills has me covered with Golden Grahams S’Mores Treats.

Will they be satisfying enough to make me postpone that angry mob appointment indefinitely? Enough fluff, let’s get right into the marshmallow fluff!

Review: Smorz Cereal (2015)

IMG_1258Do you see that, cereal fans?

“We asked for it,” and “It’s back!!”

With not one, but two—count ’em—two (2) exclamation points! That’s how you know Kellogg’s means business. We’ll just forget the part where s’mores are a traditional summer treat and the ice on my driveway just made me slip head over heels like Charlie Brown kicking a football.

But who can be upset when Smorz, one of the most-missed discontinued cereals, is back? Well, maybe fans of S’Mores Crunch (keep dreaming, friends).

Do Smorz hold up to the not-too-distant memories we have of them? Memories of the early 2000s that are filled with Backstreet Boys CDs, post-Y2K relief, and American Idol viewing parties? Let’s find out! Continue reading

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: S’Mores Crunch and Lucky Charms Marshmallows Only Cereal

I bet you’re hungry for s’more cereal video action!

Well gather round the faux campfire glow of your computer monitor (just don’t try to toast marshmallows over it) as we share with you the latest two videos from cereal sorcerer Gabe Fonseca. Gabe’s ongoing Cereal Time series has as much fun and nostalgia per 1 video serving size as the sugary cereals they detail.

And speaking of sorcerers, the first video we want to share is all about S’Mores Crunch cereal! This chocolate, graham, and marshmallow delight once had a mascot called the S’Morecerer, and that name is so cool that I’m dibs-ing it for if I ever become a vigilante superhero.

I would fight crime by night, skewering bad guys with marshmallow roasting pokers.

As Gabe concludes, those looking to relive the discontinued glory of S’Mores Crunch have two options: they can seek out Malt-O-Meal’s Madagascar S’Mores Jungle Party Cereal (which we reviewed here), or wait a little longer for the revival of Kellogg’s Smorz cereal, which should be arriving any day now (or so I hope!).
