Review: Kellogg’s Limited Edition Frosted Pink Lemonade Pop-Tarts

pinklemonadepoptart1

I have seen into the future, fellow breakfast lovers. And let me tell you, the world of tomorrow is weird.

Get this: in 50 years, all solid foods will be liquids, and all liquid foods will be solids! At dinner, we’ll nibble on chewy orange juice frittata slices for an appetizer, enjoy the hearty and tender roast Coca-Cola main course, and treat ourselves to Grandma’s old fashioned skim milk pie for dessert. Oh, and we’ll wash it all down with glasses of the finest carbonated mutton.

When I asked the flavor wizards of the future how this revolution came about, their answer was unanimous: “It all started with Kellogg’s Frosted Pink Lemonade Pop-Tarts!”

That’s right: before me sits a classic beverage in toaster pastry form. Along with their soon-to-come A&W Root Beer and Orange Crush Pop-Tarts, Frosted Pink Lemonade is leading Kellogg’s “Summer of Synesthesia” series (my name, not theirs).

Let’s see if these pastries can make me feel the summer sun as I sit here drenched and cold from a leftover April shower that apparently doesn’t own a darn calendar.

Spooned & Spotted: Kellogg’s Frosted Caramel Apple Pop-Tarts

caramelapple

Well that didn’t take long!

Just two days ago, we shared a picture of Kellogg’s upcoming A&W Root Beer flavored Pop-Tarts. Our source for that photo, reader and redditor /u/boyfoster, claimed that Caramel Apple Pop-Tarts were on the way, too.

And now we have visual proof of that wonderful fact, as boyfoster sent in this frame-worthy snapshot of a Caramel Apple tart.

With that classic golden Pop-Tart crust, a light brown frosting, and a goofy dancing troupe of iced neon green gummy worm-esque squiggles on top, these pastries are fun to look at. Based on this photo, the filling appears to be banded, too, with alternating ribbons of light and dark brown.

No word on a release date for these yet. But since autumn is a prime time for apple picking, apple bobbing, and using Apple iPhones to take selfies of ourselves baking apple pie with Grandma, I’d guess we’ll be seeing these Pop-Tarts this fall.

Pop-Tarts has already proven that they can make a mean caramel treat, so I can’t wait to try these. Just one question, though:

Where are the Salted Caramel Pop-Tarts?

Thanks again, boyfoster! To all readers who would like to see their picture or thoughts featured on a “Spooned & Spotted” post, head over to our submissions page, or just email us at cerealously.net@gmail.com.

(UPDATE: Click this to read my review of Frosted A&W Root Beer Pop-Tarts!

What’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys? A barrel of root beer, of course!

And what’s more fun than a barrel of root beer? Cramming it inside your morning toaster pastry!

Earlier this year we reported that Orange Crush and root beer flavored Pop-Tarts are on the way, and thanks to this picture sent in to us by reader and redditor /u/boyfoster, we know that those mythic sarsaparilla Tarts are not only real, but they’re A&W branded, too. Sorry, Mug and Barq’s fans: maybe you can convince the Pillsbury Doughboy to use those drinks in some Toaster Strudels.

According to boyfoster, who received and sampled these pastries from an in-store source, they taste good, but alas, they don’t fizzle. Oh well, I guess we’ll have to wait for Pop Rocks Pop-Tarts.

Oh, and one more juicy bit of news: according to boyfoster (whose word I now trust like scripture), there are also new Caramel Apple Pop-Tarts on the way that he was unable to photograph. Now that’s a flavor worth bobbing for!

Thanks again, boyfoster. To all readers who would like to see their picture or thoughts featured on a “Spooned & Spotted” post, head over to our submissions page, or just email us at cerealously.net@gmail.com.

Review: Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts Gone Nutty! Frosted PB&J Strawberry

IMG_4545

I’m glad you’re here! Hurry: put on my latest invention, the NostalgiGoggles 3000. We’ve got an important journey to take—a journey to your elementary school cafeteria!

*cue Sci-Fi whooshing noises, rainbow-colored swirling portals, Cacodemons, and other time travel imagery that doesn’t go over so well in text*

Phew, we made it. It’s the year [INSERT YOUR 3RD GRADE YEAR HERE] and the lunch bell has just gone off. Geography pop quizzes can’t get our spirits down when we have processed snacks and juice boxes on the way!

Our best friends all get in the hot lunch line with their crumpled dollar bills and milk money. We’re a little jealous, because today is Bosco Breadstick Day, but we’re still happy as we plunk down at our faux-wood paneled table, because Mom’s cryptic smile this morning told us she was packing something good.

Spilling our brown paper bags onto the table (which still smells strongly of the Lunch Lady’s Clorox wipes) the sight of PB&J Pop-Tarts makes our mouth water.

Who needs ooey-gooey cheese sticks when you can have ooey-gooey, oh-so-nutty pastries? Continue reading

Review: Trader Joe’s Cherry Pomegranate Organic Frosted Toaster Pastries

IMG_4506

Well look at you, Trader Joe’s: always getting all prim and proper with your flavors and names for things.

Instead of “cheddar,” we get “Trader Joe’s Oakwood Cold Smoked English Cheddar Cheese.” Where others would buy “ravioli,” we buy “Trader Giotto’s Arugula & Parmigiano Reggiano Ravioli.” If Trader Joe’s sold omelettes, I swear they’d call them “Fabergé Joe’s Country Cock-tail Collages.”

In the midst of this naming madness, we get TJ’s take on Pop-Tarts: “Organic Frosted Toaster Pastries.” Not content with just naming them extravagantly, Trader Joe’s also likes to extravagantify (shut up, spellcheck) their flavors from time to time.

That’s why I’m sitting here munching a Cherry Pomegranate Frosted Toaster Pastry. Sure, Kellogg’s may be happy to go hog-wild with Maple Bacon, but I can’t imagine them touching pomegranates with a 10-foot spoon. This flavor isn’t particularly new, but since I was impressed by the last TJ’s pastry I tried, I figured it was worth highlighting another.

News: Root Beer and Orange Crush Pop-Tarts Coming Soon?

IMG_4045

Forget frosted orange fudge: I’m ready for frosted Orange Crush!

(UPDATE: I reviewed both flavors: Frosted A&W Root Beer Pop-Tarts and Crush Orange Pop-Tarts!)

Snap! Crackle! Pop!

Nope, I’m not talking about the Rice Krispies mascots. I’m talking about actual soda pop-flavored Pop-Tarts based on popular carbonated drink varieties!

As part of a recent cost-cutting effort dubbed “Project K,” Kellogg’s CEO John Bryant teased root beer and Orange Crush and new pastry flavors. Project K will also lead to a further evolution of the Special K brand towards eating that is “wholesome,” instead of just lower calorie. Project K also sounds like the name of a low-budget alien invasion movie, but that’s beside the point.

In light of recent rumors about Orange Creampop Cap’n Crunch, this might just be a good year for orange-loving breakfast fans.

Let’s just hope these root beer and Orange Crush Pop-Tarts don’t fizzle, because if they succeed, then we’re all one step closer to the Mtn Dew & Doritos flavored Pop-Tarts that I know everyone has been asking for.

Review: Kellogg’s Frosted Maple Bacon Pop-Tarts

IMG_4247You might be wondering why it has taken me so long to post a review of these new Maple Bacon Pop-Tarts. As someone who collects Pop-Tarts like they’re sugary pastry trading cards (picture me sliding a Frosted Strawberry into a Yu-Gi-Oh duel disk), I agree that I should have had this review up eons ago.

But I’ve been staring at this box of Pop-Tarts for a solid month now, because I just can’t decide whether I like them.

“Oh, these are terrible!” I’ll mumble to myself, as I slide another Tart in my mouth, chasing it with a glass of milk to form a flowing Maple Bacon Log Flume down through my esophagus.

To quote Kylo Ren: “I’m being torn apart!” I wonder if it was a Maple Bacon Pop-Tart that turned him to the Dark Side. Continue reading

Review: Kellogg’s Frosted Chocolatey Caramel Pop-Tarts

IMG_1251 (1)Pop! Pop! Pop!

Can you hear it? No, it’s not the sound of tomorrow New Year’s Eve fireworks and party poppers. And no, it’s not your grumpy midwestern cousin who insists that it isn’t called “soda.”

It’s the sound of Kellogg’s wild and wonderful Pop-Tart-O-Matic, which has been eagerly popping out new flavors directly into our hungry mouths faster than we can say, “Wait, a serving size is one pastry?” Yesterday we covered the new-but-actually-secretly-from-the-late-’90s Frosted Watermelon Pop-Tarts, and today it’s time for a more straightforward flavor: Frosted Chocolatey Caramel.

Don’t worry, there won’t be any cross-contamination between the two: I made sure my toaster brushed his teeth first.
