Spooned & Spotted (UK): Crunchy Nut Peanut Butter Clusters Cereal

Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Peanut Butter Clusters Cereal Box

Oof. This one hurts.

It’s National Peanut Butter Day (January 24th), and European cereal lovers are getting a delightful new salted nut butter cereal. Meanwhile, we here in the States are left to go nuts with salty envy.

What’s worse is that it’s a new Crunchy Nut cereal! Crunchy Nut Peanut Butter Clusters is the latest iteration of Kellogg’s peanut shard-speckled, honey-glazed breakfast brand. You know, the one that delighted Americans for decades—it was first known as “Honey & Nut Corn Flakes” in the ’80s—until its untimely demise discontinuation just a couple years ago.

Aside from Crunchy Nut and the nearly mythical Triple Snack, few cereals have contained real peanut hunks, so I look back on Crunchy Nut with the fond remembrance of a native New Yorker who watched a laundromat replace his favorite pizza parlor—the only pizza parlor that topped every slice with freshly diced peanuts.

Unlike their flaky predecessors, Crunchy Nut Peanut Butter Clusters are made of oats and wheat crisps, all gummed up together with real peanut butter to form chunky clusters. Our friend Amy at Amy Seeks New Treats, who generously supplied the above box photo, has a great review. Check it out for the less-salty take of someone who actually gets to try this magnificent-looking cereal.

No, I’m not crying, I’m just, *sniff* so happy for every cereal lover across the pond. I guess I’ll just spoon some Skippy into my Peanut Butter Crunch to try and fill the void.

Big thanks go to Amy for sharing her picture. According to Crunchy Nut, this cereal can be found at Tesco stores, and will be at Asda, Sainsbury’s, and Waitrose soon. But no matter what country you’re in, if you have a cool cereal scoop, we want to see it. Click yourself right on over to our submissions page, or just email us at cerealously.net@gmail.com. There’s a good chance your picture could be featured on the site.

Review: Kroger Peanut Butter Chip Mates Cereal

IMG_1306Seriously guys, we have to talk about Peanut Butter Chip Mates.

Generic brand cereals are often seen as the crunchy butts of every breakfast table joke (I just wanted to type the phrase “crunchy butts”). Even though they are the breakfast of champions on a budget, these obvious rip-offs have goofy names like “Honey-Nut Scooters” and “Crispy Hexagons,” as well as sub-par flavors that melt away faster than a muffin in a rainstorm.

And yes, I’ve seen a muffin in a rainstorm before. It ain’t pretty.

But not Peanut Butter Chip Mates. No, Peanut Butter Chip Mates doesn’t need your pity, nor will it ask for it.

Peanut Butter Chip Mates is here to slap those preconceived notions about store brand cereals right out of you.

Peanut Butter Chip Mates is here to slap you so full of doughy peanut butter cookie flavor that you’ll be on your knees in front of a box of Marshmallow Mateys, begging for forgiveness. Continue reading

Review: ThinkThin Honey Peanut Butter Oatmeal

IMG_4193Being on a soft food diet sucks.

But being a cereal review blogger on a soft food diet sucks harder than Starkiller Base on the energy of a sun.

While I was able to stockpile several cereal reviews before undergoing this wretched tooth surgery, at the moment my palate has been forced to gum down meal after meal of oatmeal. Don’t get me wrong, I love oatmeal, but after packet #6 it starts to feel like a beige, mushy nightmare.

However, I figured it was only fair to toss out a review of one of the oatmeal varieties I’ve tried for the first time. It’s ThinkThin Honey Peanut Butter Oatmeal. I don’t know how new it is, but I don’t actually care enough to wade through the silly string of Google searches necessary to find out.

I’d also like to add that one of my New Year’s Resolutions was to start writing some shorter reviews, so those that don’t want to wade through labyrinthian walls of parentheses and references to decades-old fruit snacks will still enjoy this site. My other New Year’s Resolution was to line up an entire package of Keebler E.L. Fudge Cookies and topple them like dominoes, but that’s beside the point.

On to the review! Continue reading

Review: Kellogg’s Jif PB&J Cereal

IMG_1242Let me tell you a story, dear readers. The story of PB&J cereal.

Introduced by Quaker in the late ’80s, PB&J featured light brown peanut butter puff pieces accompanied by light magenta jelly puffs. Rumor has it that it only reached isolated test markets, and other conspiracy theorists doubt whether it existed at all.

Either way, what we do know is that PB the explorer and his canine pal J, the mascots of PB&J cereal, are now mysterious relics of cereal lore, and they have long left fans of the famous grade school lunch sandwich wishing for a cereal with the same flavor.

But now, Kellogg’s is hoping to satisfy the cravings of PB&J nuts with this brand new cereal. It’s Jif PB&J, and it combines Jif peanut butter pieces with strawberry jelly puffs. So allow me to pretend I’m in 4th grade again, as I open my crinkling bag to review this hopefully nostalgic treat.

(Man, Kellogg’s really missed an opportunity by not packaging it in brown paper lunch bags.) Continue reading
