(UPDATE 8/1/16: If you’re looking for news on 2016’s monster cereals, I wrote about them here. Otherwise, my review of Count Chocula for 2015 is live! Click here to read it! I also took a look at the Target castle boxes here! A review of Franken Berry is here! And Boo Berry’s review is here!)

Imagine a crack of thunder on a rainy night.

Imagine a single, dimly lit jack-o-lantern.

Imagine the little girl from Poltergeist saying “they’re heeeere.”

That’s right, Halloween is coming early this year, because General Mills has just announced the official return of their marshmallowy, seasonal cereals: the cocoa rich Count Chocula, the blazing red strawberry Franken Berry, and the fluorescent blue ‘n’ fruity Boo Berry.

Move over, Santa Claus: these heroes that “only come one time a year” are beloved by kids and adults, too. Continue reading

Review: French Toast Crunch Cereal

IMG_3662French Toast Crunch is a rare breed in the winding history of cereal, and its storyline seems more fitting for a series of Christopher Nolan movies than for a box of sweetened corn pieces.

Upon its introduction in 1995, French Toast Crunch was a hero. Beloved by children, adults, seniors, dogs, and sea urchins (probably) alike for its unique maple flavor, French Toast Crunch was something worth writing about in your Trapper Keeper. Continue reading

News: Cheerios Plus Cereal Hits Canada

(UPDATE 9/15: My review of Cheerios Plus is live! Click here to read it!)

In a recent new product announcement from Cookie Crisp kingpins General Mills, one of the many showcased munchies was Cheerios Plus. Somehow, this idea managed to beat out our own concept for new Cheerios, “Cheerios Minus,” which would just be an empty box that grimly symbolizes the futile nature of our nihilistic reality.

Though it’s, sadly, a Canada exclusive, Cheerios Plus appears to be similar to America’s Cheerios Protein, pitching health-consciousness via buzzwords (but, of course, not as many buzzwords as Honey Nut Cheerios. Okay, even I wasn’t proud of that one).

However, it differs from Cheerios Protein in that it comes in a lean, plastic bag. I guess cardboard boxes just don’t flatter the natural curves of oat based cereals.

Cheerios Plus comes in Cinnamon Coconut and Honey Almond flavors, but since it’s only available to our northern neighbors, perhaps we can one day hope for a Canadian Bacon flavor.

If you’re from Canada, have you tried these? What’s the verdict?

If you’re from America, would you love to see this cereal cross the border? Why or why not?

We crave your feedback more than double chocolate Krave, so let us know in the comments below!

Review: Chex Clusters Cereal

IMG_3570Chex Clusters!

Frosted Flakes with Energy Clusters!

Cheerios Protein!

The cereal aisle has become a genuine clusterf*** of “extreme” styled cereal boxes boasting to passerby that their addition of oat clusters has somehow made a sugar-filled classic into something more suitable for the health-conscious.

Somewhere nearby, Honey Bunches of Oats smirks smugly at all the newbies: he’s had energy-packed clusters since 1989!

The latest of these breakfast bandwagoners is Chex Clusters. Continue reading
