Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: S’Mores Crunch and Lucky Charms Marshmallows Only Cereal

I bet you’re hungry for s’more cereal video action!

Well gather round the faux campfire glow of your computer monitor (just don’t try to toast marshmallows over it) as we share with you the latest two videos from cereal sorcerer Gabe Fonseca. Gabe’s ongoing Cereal Time series has as much fun and nostalgia per 1 video serving size as the sugary cereals they detail.

And speaking of sorcerers, the first video we want to share is all about S’Mores Crunch cereal! This chocolate, graham, and marshmallow delight once had a mascot called the S’Morecerer, and that name is so cool that I’m dibs-ing it for if I ever become a vigilante superhero.

I would fight crime by night, skewering bad guys with marshmallow roasting pokers.

As Gabe concludes, those looking to relive the discontinued glory of S’Mores Crunch have two options: they can seek out Malt-O-Meal’s Madagascar S’Mores Jungle Party Cereal (which we reviewed here), or wait a little longer for the revival of Kellogg’s Smorz cereal, which should be arriving any day now (or so I hope!). Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: Krave and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Cereal

Do you love to rave about Krave cereal?

Well if so, then you’ll have a heckuva time arguing with cereal chronologist Gabe Fonseca. In the first of the latest two videos we’d like to share with you from his Cereal Time series—which details the winding history of cereal that’s more colorful than a Candy Land board—Gabe begrudgingly covers the initially European, choco-stuffed biscuit sensation which has only recently blessed American shelves.

I’ve mentioned before how divisive Krave is between rabid haters and fans, and Gabe and I are proof of these two camps. When you randomly poll someone about their opinion on the cereal, it’s like playing a game of Krave roulette. And speaking of Krave Roulette…

So how about you, fellow cereal-vores? Do you crave it, or do you save it…for the garbagemen to pick up off your curbside?

Gabe’s second video covers Bill & Ted’s Excellent Cereal, a tie-in to the mondo radical movie Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. This cereal is a mix of holed cinnamon square pieces (kinda looks like a spiritual predecessor to Jif cereal, eh?) and marshmallowy bits.

It’s nice to have more evidence that the concept of tying in a movie with an oat and marshmallow cereal is such a long-lasting tradition. I bet even in the time of the dinosaurs, they were mixing crunchy Brontosaurus femurs with dino egg shaped marbits. Maybe Bill & Ted can go back and confirm this.

If you think Gabe’s videos are most excellent!, be sure to check ’em all out. Every Cereal Time video can be found here, and you can check out Gabe’s Twitter, as well.

Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca: King Vitaman, Cinnamon Mini-Buns, & Churros Cereal

Got a lot of work to do this Friday afternoon?

Just looking forward to the weekend?

Either way, we want to make today a little bit better by sharing a few more cereal history lessons from cereal archaeologist Gabe Fonseca, whose Cereal Time YouTube series covers so many wild and colorful cereal that may have faded from your memory as time passed.

First up is King Vitaman cereal, and while it isn’t the crowning achievement of Quaker, this crown-shaped Cap-n Crunch taste-alike has had some royally clever advertising campaigns over the years.

Next up is a cinnamon double feature that covers both Cinnamon Mini-Buns and Churros cereal. Gabe takes viewers on a trip down the long, swirling history of Cinnamon Mini-Buns as it evolved into what we know and love today as Cinnabon cereal.

Likewise, the regional Mini Cinnamon Churros is Post’s attempt to compete with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. You’d be hard-pressed to find a box of it today (it was focused around Mexico), but if you do, you’ll be smacking your cinnamon sugar-coated lips and singing “Churr-oh yeah!” in no time.

If you love Gabe’s videos as much as the rest of us, be sure to watch ’em all! Every Cereal Time video can be found here, and you can check out Gabe’s Twitter, as well.

Special: Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca — Powerpuff Girls Cereal & Reese’s Puff Cereal

With monster cereals, selfie spoons, Canadian Cheerios and more, it’s been a busy season for cereal already.

That’s why this week we want to share with you the latest two installments in Gabe Fonseca’s serial cereal series (try saying that 5 times fast with a mouth full of Reese’s Puffs). If you’re new to the series, prepare to have your senses inundated with nostalgia, cartoon commercials, and oddly specific memories of stealing your sister’s Powerpuff Girls Game Boy game just to play it in secret.

Wait, that last one was just me? Continue reading

Special: Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca — Alpha-Bits Cereal

Even though many students have Labor Day off of school, it’s time for a spelling lesson.

Or maybe just another cereal lesson. That’s right, cereal knowledge bomb-dropper Gabe Fonseca returns once more with the latest in his Cereal Time YouTube series, which seeks to teach the masses about what really matters in life.

Who needs accounting and mechanical engineering when you have cereal? After all, history’s many popular cereal brands can be seen as oat-based, sugar-coated symbols of the world’s evolving cultural zeitgeist. Or you can just see them as delicious.

And this week’s focus certainly has evolved. Alpha-Bits cereal has seen many mascots over the years, from a postman, to a dog, all the way to the Jackson 5. Although, as many have pointed out, the normalization of Alpha-Bits over the years into a bland, personality-less cereal could be seen as more of a devolution.

Oh well, maybe you can still use the grainy oats to teach your horse how to read. Mister Ed 2015, anyone?

And you know the drill: for more cereal action, check out Gabe’s other Cereal Time videos, and check out his quality Tweets, as well. Where else can you find badass Star Wars sneaker glamour shots?

Special: Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca — Addams Family Cereal

Have you been Cousin It-ching to relive another classic cereal?

Well the latest in cereal-ology scholar Gabe Fonseca’s Cereal Time YouTube series is ready to scratch that nostalgic itch. As regular readers (or viewers) know, Gabe’s series of videos evoke the spirit of childhood through quick cuts, bright colors, and even cartoon clips. And unlike most cereals today which have done away with the concept, this Cereal Time video has a prize inside!

This installment covers Addam’s Family cereal, which creeped onto store shelves in 1991 and lasted until 1993, as Gabe details in the video. Gabe pours an actual box of the maroon and pale cereal pieces, but doesn’t eat any. Like many Addams Family characters, this cereal looks a little too…undead. At least Ralston didn’t try to recreate the texture of Cousin It with the oat pieces.

Be sure to check the link in the video for a chance to win an actual Cousin It flashlight premium that paired with the cereal back in the spooky, scary ’90s (*cue ghost voices saying “oooooohhhhh!”*). Also check out Gabe’s Twitter and watch all of his other Cereal Time videos.

They really are a scream, I promise!

Special: Cereal Time with Gabe Fonseca — Golden Grahams

♬ Oh those Golden Graha—

We interrupt this catchy jingle for a special Cerealously report! The breaking news has just rolled in that cereal visionary Gabe Fonseca has released the latest in his informative Cereal Time YouTube series, which brings fun facts and history about a different cereal each week directly to to your doorstep. Err…computer screen, I mean.

Throw away those expensive textbooks, kids: this is the last educational reference you’ll ever need.

This week’s bowl is the delightfully flavored and textured Golden Grahams. As Gabe accurately states, Golden Grahams have been underrated for too long, so it’s nice to see them finally get the spotlight. For whatever reason, GG always plays second fiddle to its swirly brother, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, which gets all the flavor spin-offs (Peanut Butter Toast Crunch, French Toast Crunch, etc.). Golden Grahams, meanwhile, gets nothing. You lose, Golden Grahams: good day sir!

I, personally, would love to see a s’mores variant of Golden Grahams, or perhaps a seasonal pumpkin spice. But it’s as the saying goes, I guess: always the bridesmaid, Golden Grahams, never the cinnamon-swirled bride.

(Though I will argue that delightfully lick-able ridges trump swirls and powder every time)

As before, enjoy Gabe’s video (how else will you learn about what is perhaps the cutest and most obscure cereal mascot of all time?), and be sure to check out the rest of the Cereal Time series, as well as Gabe’s Twitter profile.

We now return to your previously scheduled jingle.
