That’s right, kids and kids-at-heart, this week’s video double feature from cereal sensei Gabe Fonseca’s enlightening and informational Cereal Time YouTube series covers two tie-in cereals with unique concepts.
First up is Homer’s Cinnamon Donut Crunch, one in a long and storied line of donut-themed cereals (or is it spelled doughnut? Something about that extra “ugh” makes them seem so much more delicious). Gabe covers many of the the other donut cereals from boxes past, from Dunkin’ Donuts cereal all the way to the more modern Sprinkled Donut Crunch from Cap’n Crunch.
The only one missing is a mention of Cap’n Crunch’s Chocolate Donuts from the early 2000s. If only this cereal would return as an alternate flavor for Sprinkled Donut Crunch (hint hint, Cap’n).
Finally, Gabe discusses how Homer’s cereal is unique for being the only cinnamon donut variety of the batch. But personally, I wonder how the taste of Homer’s compares to the similarly shaped Mini Cinnamon Churros cereal? Sadly, we’ll never know, as the ancient cereal in Gabe’s video has become too petrified to ever grace our palettes again.
Man, all this talk of donuts just has me warmly remembering the raspberry cereal donut I recently had from the wonderful Propaganda Doughnuts. And yes, this is just an excuse for me to post this gorgeous picture again. Gaze upon it, if you dare (or should I say, “glaze upon it”):
Gabe’s second video covers a Dr. Seuss cereal: Cat in the Hat.
Gabe tells us the cereal’s history; it’s a lovely chat.
Each strawberry hat piece has rosey red stripes.
I’m sure the flavor was tasty; kids would have no gripes.
The color reminds me of Love Grown Foods’ Strawberry Power O’s.
Is the flavor similar? Cat in the Hat went stale, so who knows.
If you’re sick of my rhymes, be sure to watch more Cereal Time. All the videos are here, and you can check out Gabe’s Twitter, as well.
