I’m Oreo O-verjoyed.
I’m Oreo O-ver the moon.
I’m bellowing “Oreo O-h yeah!” to the skies, heavens, and great sandwich cookie cosmos above.
Yes, friends, neighbors, countrymen, and dunkers: Oreo O’s, your favorite ’90s cereal or probably favorite cereal ever, is coming back. In the year 2017.
On the 20th anniversary of its debut and the 10th anniversary of its tragic discontinuation in the States, news has broken—and subsequently broken the internet in two like a twisted apart cookie—that Post has brought its iconic, cookies and creme flavored cereal back from our nostalgic memories and into reality. Of course, the cereal has been around in South Korea for nearly a decade now—a fact that I’ve well-documented—but its high price of important made it out of reach for all but the most “devoted” (by which I mean “questionably sane” and by which I also mean me).
These new Oreo O’s should be hitting shelves in early June, so start prepping some garage space to stockpile boxes. Heck: maybe Nabisco will even re-release S’Mores Oreos so we have something to eat during our Walmart parking lot campouts.
Before I leave you all to bathe in a palpable sea of nostalgia, this new Oreo O’s news does come with a cumbersome (or “crumbersome,” if you will) caveat. Malt-O-Meal, which is owned by Post, already released a Cookies & Cream Oreo O’s doppelgänger. This taste-alike is pretty good, but it still can’t match the dense, buttery flavor of the Korean kind—which I consider to be the true original.
This new Post Oreo O’s revival looks eerily similar to Cookies & Cream, leading me to worry that “new” Oreo O’s are just repackaged C&C and not, in fact, the real Oreo O.G. A Post spokesperson claims that, “Fans of the iconic OREO O’s cereal will find the product has stayed true to its roots,” but as, arguably, the world’s biggest Oreo O’s fan (wait ’til I put that on my resume), I have one thing left to say:
Be ready to put your money where my mouth is. Or something like that.
Dan G, the ingredients are slightly different between the new Oreo O’s and Cookies n Cream. Regardless, I love the Cookies n Cream cereal, so if this is an option to buy those in somrthing other than a two pound bag, I’m still stoked for this!
does this Oreo O’s have marshallows on it?
no
Hmm. Post is doing Honey Maid S’mores cereal, too, which is also a Malt O Meal cereal. So Idunno about all this… But on the plus side, the boxes are smaller! I never get MOM bags since I’m one person and not a big family. XD
What bothers me is that there’s no marshmallows in this version either. My guess is there’s still some legal issues that aren’t allowing the exact same version that was released last decade. I’m gonna give it a shot, but I won’t hesitate to stick to my Korean version!
Weird move to release the “store brand” cereal before the brand name cereal. xD
This looks so much like the MOM Cookies & Cream AND are from “the same” company…
for you guys i really hope they even put a bit more effort into them and maybe changed the recipe/ingredients a bit, so that we really have a difference in MOM (store brand) and the post (brand name) Oreo O’hs… but i fear not.
Still this is hope for me, that i can find them a bit easier next time in the US, since i most probably was in the only walmart the last time that didn’t had the Cookies and Cream cereal (they had every other mom variety but not those… -.-)
Actually can’t wait for your review again!
Yeah…in all honesty I’m not even excited to try it. South Korean Oreo O’s are fantastic, and this “new” stuff has the same ingredients list as C&C pretty much. And given how Post has been “improving” (not improving) its cereals recently, I almost wonder if Oreo O’s were better left alone overseas. We’ll see though.
xD
I’m soooooooo shocked, that you’re not excited about this announcement xD
Although it sounds like you don’t like the US Oreo O’s, i know that you just like the Korean ones waaaaay more, so i’m sure there will be a review in the future packed with your well known, loved and amazing puns and references to fill the otherwise “one sentence revie” (aka “Read the MOM Cookie and Cream Review”):)
This combined with that Apple Cinnamon Crunch has me stoked. Not only individually delicious I bet, but a combo of the two will likely be tremendous, dare I say a-peel-ing…
Great 2 posts that I pray are not a hozx.
