(Update: there will also be a third Larabar Cereal variety: Cashew Cookie!)
Six months after the first bar-turned-cereal reared its overpriced head, Larabar is giving chase. It’s unclear whether KIND inspired Larabar parent company General Mills to deconstruct their energy bars too—try as I might, I couldn’t figure out who makes KIND Cereal. KIND is owned by Mars, a name that certainly isn’t a breakfast aisle regular, as they repeatedly refuse to drop an M&M’s cereal. But I digress; I like Larabars a lot more than KIND bars, so I’m genuinely wishing them well with the ambitious Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip above.
I’ll be honest with y’all: I think this cereal is going to taste amazing.I anticipate a total slapper, if not a Cereal of the Year contender. Why am I so confident? Just look at it! Chocolate chips, peanuts, oats and flakes—how can it go wrong? I’ll lament that there probably won’t be any doughy notes like in a real Larabar, but this is giving me serious Love Crunch vibes. And that’s saying something.
But wait, there’s more!
I also stumbled upon evidence of an Apple Pie Larabar Cereal variety, as well. Flakes and oats are back, and peanut’s been swapped for almond, which kind of seems like a weird choice for apple pie (unless that’s a thing?). But there’s also cinnamon, and maybe apple pieces? I don’t see any on the box, so it may just be baked into the flakes. I see a couple bits that look like sunflower seeds, too, so if true, this could be one of the most eclectic cereals in recent memory.
That said, I have slightly lower hopes for Apple Pie Larabar Cereal, because it lacks a creamy element when compared with PBCC’s eponymous chocolate chips. I’m sure milk will largely null my concerns, but with such a diverse cast of mix-ins already, they could easily still squeeze in yogurt clusters, or heck: caramel niblets.
The release date for these Larabar Cereals is TBA, but since they already appear on Walmart and Meijer‘s sites, I’m guessing they’ll be part of General Mills’ already expansive New Year’s ensemble. You’ll notice neither page has a price yet, at least not at the time of this post’s publication. I’m really hoping these will be cheaper than KIND Cereal ($7 a pop!), because I’m a sucker for peanut butter chocolate, and I’m interested to see just how deep Apple Pie’s mix-in rabbit hole goes.
These were the only two Larabar Cereal varieties I could find, but there could be other undiscovered flavors. I’ll update this post if I hear of any. Until then, be KIND to each other.
Wait, that’s all wrong.
Be Larabar to each other!
Much better.
I am in MIchigan and can’t find this cereal for sale anyway. I bought it online from Amazon last year but they no longer carry it. My college daughter loves it. Any ideas?
same. It is my absolute favorite cereal. I am in pa, and I really hope it hasn’t been discontinued!!!
We love Larabar’s bars, so we had high hopes for their cereal. The cereal is horrible. It tastes like cardboard.
I think it’s delicious!
Looks amazing – but was expecting it to be gluten free. I’ll have to enjoy these vicariously.
First Kind, now Larabar. I am not on board with expensive cereals when it’s the basically the same thing as the other cereals – same ingredients and same flavor. A box of cereal costing more than $4 is a complete rip-off.
