How much time has to go by before a News post becomes an Overdue post?
At least I’m not alone: the existence of Harvest Strawberry-flavored “Simply” Pop-Tarts has apparently gone under the radar of every snack food journalist from the information super highway to the dusty backroads of the Wild Wildberry West.
And for good reason: the timeline behind these GMO-free Pop-Tarts is a little cloudy. Web searches reveal that they’ve been mentioned in early 2018, when it seems they were exclusive to school lunch programs, much like General Mills’ neufchatel-filled cereal bars. But I was able to date their current, Costco-exclusive 32-pack debut back to January of this year, thanks to a Kellogg’s newsletter for health and wellness professionals.
The irony here is that the nutrition facts for Simply Pop-Tarts are just as, if not more dietarily damning than a normal Strawberry Pop-Tart, with more saturated fat per pastry. But hey: at least it has half a gram more of dietary fiber and no green sprinkles!
No word on whether these will taste dramatically different than normal Strawberry Pop-Tarts—I expect to taste that harvest, whether it’s a touch of earthy dirt or the metallic sheen of an International Harvester combine—but without a Costco membership, I’ll ask that if you’ve tried them, leave a comment below. In the mean time, I’ll have to woo my grandma into xeroxing her membership card.
Or just try Google Express.
Having trouble finding the simply Pop-Tarts in any of the stores and I am not supposed to have the high fructose corn syrup or that much sugar and they have less sugar than the regular ones
I have been buying Simply Pop Tarts at Amazon the last little while but they’ve stopped stocking them apparently. I can not find them anywhere online and have never seen them in stores. Any idea why they’re so hard to find?
I bought simply pop tarts at Costco if that helps. I have a question about it….we’re your simply pop tarts brown on the inside, the filling I mean….????
My son is autistic and he wants poptarts on the daily. Poptarts are the only thing i feel extremely guilty for letting him eat whenever he wants, but sometimes its all he will eat…i love these because there are no dyes and no HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP!
They didn’t taste like strawberry as much as the red dyed ones. I did like the crust better – it had more of a whole-grain flavor. Then again, my opinion may be off because of the look (when I see bright red I think strawberry flavor, and when I see crust other than white-white, I think healthy/grains). I don’t think I will purchase this flavor again, but will try another flavor next time. I was surprised how many chemicals were still listed on the box for a product called “simply”.
I love these because I have a severe allergy to artificial colors. I haven’t eaten a pop tart in years and today when they finally hit my local Walmart, I almost cried with joy that I would be able to enjoy a classic pop tart again. You never know how much something is taken for granted until you can’t eat it anymore and then you can finally have a version that allows it again.
I have a mild allergy to artificial colors. Such an annoying thing to be allergic to because they are EVERYWHERE. And it would be so easy to just leave it out of most things that have any actual fruit in them. I am tired of buying $$$ knock-offs of things that are “organic” and often don’t taste as good just to avoid an ingredient that isn’t even allowed in most of the developed world.
