Cap’n Horatio Magellan Crunch is a weird guy. In fact, I once wrote an op-ed about how the Cap’n is one of the last remaining bastions of cereal’s ’80s & ’90s golden era, back when off-the-wall breakfast gimmicks were a dime a chocolate-coated dozen. While other cereal brands were trying to remove artificial ingredients and promote active, on-the-go mealtimes, Cap’n Crunch was still wack-adaisically dropping Creamsicle and Cotton Candy cereals—not to mention atomically colored Slurpees and pancake syrup.
And don’t even get me started on Canuck Crunch.
On one hand, it's sad there's no maple flavoring here. But at the same time, I love how this calls the geopolitical loyalty of the Cap'n's military service entirely into question https://t.co/rdBZOurYcI

As a result, I’m always eager to see what else this kooky Cap’n and his detached eyebrows has up his nonsensically nautical sleeves.
That said, I’ll admit Quaker’s latest Chocolate Caramel Crunch isn’t quite as inspired as the Cap’n’s other seafaring fare—the combo of chest pieces and flavored Crunch Berries reminds me of the lackluster Chocolatey Berry Crunch. But I am interested to see if there’s better caramel flavor here than in the likewise *meh* Cap’n Crunch’s Caramel Popcorn Crunch.
A bit more interesting are these snack pouches of Cap’n Crunch Churro Bites. Taking a clear page out of Cinnamon Toast Crunch’s playbook, it’s unclear whether these will be purely chocolate flavored, or if there will be cinnamon at play, too. Either way, it’s rare to see Cap’n Crunch stray from chest and Berry shaped pieces, so these could surprise me texturally as well as tastefully.
I just hope the box art is accurate, and an actual Cap’n Crunch bursts out of each pouch to feed me Churros while giggling like a mustachioed Salacious Crumb.
Both of these Cap’n Crunch releases have been listed on the respective sites of Kroger and its subsidiary stores, so it might be a safe bet to start searching there first.
His eyebrows are sorta like hyoid bones in that detached way.
Does Canuck Crunch have the strawberry juice concentrate that was recently removed from the US Crunch Berries recipe? I’m guessing not. :/
Orange Cream Pop was awesome. It still boggles my mind why stores pulled it from the shelves so quickly that summer it came out. It only lasted for literally like 3 days at my local ACME supermarket in central New Jersey. Once the shelves were bare, that was it. It never got restocked. And ACME was one of the few supermarkets to carry it in my area. Yet, I can still find the Caramel Crunch, Cotton Candy, and Chocolate Berry Crunch versions presently at my local supermarkets. Not sure why Orane Cream Pop had such a short run while the other newer variations lasted for a few years already.
Quaker went through all of that trouble to bring a new cereal to market, only to pull it after what I assume is a 1-2 week run. Doesn’t make any sense from a financial standpoint. I’m sure it had no problem selling in its small time frame release.
I overpaid for a box of that on ebay, paid almost 20 bucks. For as long as i live I’ll be glad i did.
Wow, that sucks. Sorry to hear it cost you that much. But glad you enjoyed it. It’s ridiculous that it didn’t last longer in the stores or that they haven’t bought it back again since 2016 or whatever summer it came out a few years ago.
Still waiting for orange cream pop crunch to return. Either that or quisp, quake, and quangaroos…
