News: Count Chocula Beer is “Reanimated” with Help from General Mills

B0LATrYIEAA-TlkI vant to drink your beer!

Was that a Dracula impression, or an impression of someone who has polished off one two many cereal-themed alcoholic beverages?

Straight off of the news of General Mills and Fulton’s Wheaties-themed beer, the Big G is now making sure everyone has a hop-py Halloween, too. Last autumn, Colorado-based Black Bottle Brewery was in the news for slowly bleeding out their hometown’s supply of Count Chocula cereal for use in a Count Chocula-themed beer.

But this year, residents of Fort Collins—Black Bottle Brewery’s base of operations—no longer need to fear that caped hoarders will sneak into supermarkets during the dead of night and suck the cereal aisle dry of its cocoa-marshmallow lifeblood. That’s because, according to the Coloradoan, General Mills has so kindly supplied the brewers with boxes of the Count to use.

The Count’s flavor will be available on tap again at Black Bottle Brewery starting on August 25th. The Count Chocula beer is part of Black Bottle Brewery’s larger line of cereal brews that they have dubbed “Cerealiously.”

Wait, am I reading that right? Something about that name seems…strangely familiar.

So what does the Big G have in store next for cereal+beer tie-ins? One can only guess.

Honey Nut Beer-ios, perhaps?

Look out, cereal warriors, because General Mills and Minneapolis brewing company Fulton are bringing a whole new meaning to “breakfast of champions.”

That’s right, the fortified flakes known for their athlete-depicting, Nickelodeon orange-colored boxes (clearly I am not an athlete after that adjective) are partnering with their fellow Minnesota natives to launch HefeWheaties, a wheat beer with a design and taste inspired by Wheaties.

Just don’t use it to replace milk on your morning cereal. (Or do: we’d love to hear how it goes!) Continue reading

Even though our swimming pools are still uncovered and the smell of sunscreen still wafts delicately through the air, stores are rolling out the recognizable tastes of fall in every product imaginable (I expect even cat litter and shoe polish to be autumn-ified this year). And the two most popular flavors, pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon, could soon be in your cereal bowl, too. Continue reading

(UPDATE 8/1/16: If you’re looking for news on 2016’s monster cereals, I wrote about them here. Otherwise, my review of Count Chocula for 2015 is live! Click here to read it! I also took a look at the Target castle boxes here! A review of Franken Berry is here! And Boo Berry’s review is here!)

Imagine a crack of thunder on a rainy night.

Imagine a single, dimly lit jack-o-lantern.

Imagine the little girl from Poltergeist saying “they’re heeeere.”

That’s right, Halloween is coming early this year, because General Mills has just announced the official return of their marshmallowy, seasonal cereals: the cocoa rich Count Chocula, the blazing red strawberry Franken Berry, and the fluorescent blue ‘n’ fruity Boo Berry.

Move over, Santa Claus: these heroes that “only come one time a year” are beloved by kids and adults, too. Continue reading

News: Cheerios Plus Cereal Hits Canada

(Image via General Mills)

(UPDATE 9/15: My review of Cheerios Plus is live! Click here to read it!)

In a recent new product announcement from Cookie Crisp kingpins General Mills, one of the many showcased munchies was Cheerios Plus. Somehow, this idea managed to beat out our own concept for new Cheerios, “Cheerios Minus,” which would just be an empty box that grimly symbolizes the futile nature of our nihilistic reality.

Though it’s, sadly, a Canada exclusive, Cheerios Plus appears to be similar to America’s Cheerios Protein, pitching health-consciousness via buzzwords (but, of course, not as many buzzwords as Honey Nut Cheerios. Okay, even I wasn’t proud of that one).

However, it differs from Cheerios Protein in that it comes in a lean, plastic bag. I guess cardboard boxes just don’t flatter the natural curves of oat based cereals.

Cheerios Plus comes in Cinnamon Coconut and Honey Almond flavors, but since it’s only available to our northern neighbors, perhaps we can one day hope for a Canadian Bacon flavor.

If you’re from Canada, have you tried these? What’s the verdict?

If you’re from America, would you love to see this cereal cross the border? Why or why not?

We crave your feedback more than double chocolate Krave, so let us know in the comments below!

News: Cerealously Wants Your Help!

IMG_1614As part of our corn and oat-based commitment to providing the latest and best in cereal news and reviews, Cerealously is seeking reader input!

Since we can’t be everywhere all of the time (or can we? Seriously, if you know a good omnipresence guy, hit me up with his phone number), we’re gonna rely on you (yes, that means you) to fill in our blindspots. And that means more than just spotting us when backing into a parking spot.

If you’re out shopping and see a cereal that is cool, new, or a combination of both (new-l?), don’t hesitate to snap a photo and send it to us. If we haven’t covered it yet, it may appear on the site (along with photo credit, of course) in one of our cereal news posts.

Additionally, if you have a favorite cereal, whether it’s new, classic, or even one you invented in your kitchen by mixing Crunchberries, Scooby-Doo fruit snacks, and orange soda (new from Nickelodeon: it’s Kenan & Kel cereal!) that you want reviewed for the site, send us that suggestion, too! We’d be more than happy to share in your favorite breakfast memories.

If you’re up to the challenge, just click on the big ol’ picture of Golden Grahams in this post (click, don’t lick; that’s one mistake that’s hard to explain to the repair guy at Best Buy). Or you can use the “Submit” link at the top of the site to send us something any time.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I think it’s breakfast time (a.k.a. all the time).

All of this will be presented with an attempt at wit that you will either praise or report to the FDA for dangerously high levels of “groan-inducers.”

So grab a box of your personal favorite, pour some 2% (or whole, skim, chocolate, almond, soy, etc.; no milk elitism here!), find that lucky spoon, and enjoy.
