News: Cap’n Crunch’s Orange Creampop Crunch Coming Soon?

IMG_0646 (1) copy

(UPDATE 6/8: Orange Creampop Crunch is real, and we reviewed it!)

We’ve had Peanut Butter Crunch. We’ve munched a baker’s dozen bowls of Sprinkled Donut Crunch. Heck, we’ve even consumed an XL, family-sized movie theater tub of Caramel Popcorn Crunch. If Cap’n Crunch has endorsed it, we’ve eaten it.

So what will the Cap’n debut next to bring forth a tidal wave of drool from the hungry whirlpools of our faces? Well, to paraphrase Man of Popsicle, “If it’s Popsicle, it might be possible.”

As some internet sleuths have uncovered, back on November 5th of last year, Quaker filed a trademark application for CAP’N CRUNCH’S ORANGE CREAMPOP CRUNCH. Maybe Cap’n Crunch’s title should be CAPS LOCK-ing Crunch, instead.

From almost any other cereal brand, I’d be concerned about such a zany flavor idea. But since Cap’n Crunch is the same guy who once casually brought us an exploding volcano cereal, I’d trust him even if he debuted “Cap’n Crunch’s Hot Garbage Juice Crunch.”

No word on when (or even if) Cap’n Crunch’s Orange Creampop Crunch will see the light of day, but my guess would be early to mid-summer. And when it does arrive?  You’d better believe I’ll have a bowl of melted orange sherbet ready to pour it in.

What do you all think of this possible new flavor?

News: Three New Kids Cereals from LOVE GROWN FOODS

(UPDATE: I reviewed all three cereals here!)

Before you even ask it, allow me to answer your first question: yes, these cereals are made from beans. And your second question: no, from my experience, it’s not as crazy as it may sound.

Either way, all you real human beans out there will soon have three fresh options to pick from for your own little kidney beans to enjoy (see what I did there?). As excitedly announced by LOVE GROWN FOODS on Facebook (maybe their name is in all caps because they’re always excited?), the latest in their string of bean cereals are Comet Crispies, Polar Puffs, and Sea Stars, and they’re kid-focused with colorful designs.

I can only imagine that the chocolatey Comet Crispies were made by none other than Pow himself. Pow, the forgotten fourth relative of Snap, Crackle, and Pop, must have grown jaded after his brothers kicked him out of the quartet back in the 1950s. So he created this alternative to Cocoa Krispies as revenge. (Note: none of this is true)

Polar Puffs have a unique blend of blueberry and vanilla flavors. Both of these are rare on cereal shelves, but seeing them both together is like seeing a polar bear stroll through Manhattan. Let’s just be glad they didn’t go with Coca-Cola flavored puffs for this one.

Finally, Sea Stars are fruit flavored, and they get to join the exclusive club of star-shaped cereals which includes Christmas Crunch, SpongeBob cereal, Cocoa Puffs with Stars, and, of course, Swedish Chef’s Cröonchy Stars.

Look for all three navy, lentil, and garbanzo bean cereals in stores soon (you should be able to find and buy them at Kroger and its family of stores). And while they’re made to be kid-friendly, you all better believe that I’ll still be shoveling them into my hungry mouth like a bean farmer with his trowel.

News: Even more Star Wars Cereal Boxes from General Mills!

Remember when I said I was done talking about General Mills’ Star Wars boxes? Well that was a bigger lie than “these aren’t the droids you’re looking for.” Because who could’ve expected that General Grievous Mills would release another batch of tie-in boxes for Episode VII, which releases less than three weeks from now?

But yes, it’s true, as a tweet from General Mills has revealed that two new characters will soon grace the front of Star Wars Cereal (which I reviewed earlier this year). Darth Vader is joined by the sinister Kylo Ren, while Yoda and the light side of the force are joined by…BB-8? Oh man, Yoda really got the short end of the stick on that deal (well, he always gets a short stick, I guess).

If these boxes ever have to square off to determine the fate of the galaxy, let’s just say it was nice knowing you all.

Oh, and if you happen to spot these new boxes on shelves, you know where to send your pictures!

News: New 2016 Kellogg’s Cereals to include Smorz, Jif PB&J, and More!

(UPDATE: My review of Jif PB&J can be found here! My review of Smorz can be found here! I reviewed Apple Raspberry Almond Special K Nourish here! Cranberry Harvest Delights Mini-Wheats and the ToGo Mixes have been reviewed, too!)

If all goes well, once January 1st comes around, you won’t even be able to say “Happy New Year,” because your mouth will be happily stuffed with one of Kellogg’s amazing new cereal offerings.

So I guess it’ll sound more like “Hrrby voobreer!”

In a press release yesterday, Kellogg’s introduced a number of the 40+ new products they have planned for good old MMXVI. Among these is 16 new cereals. Take a deep breath, polish your bowl and spoon, and put on your cereal pants sweatpants, ’cause we’re about to talk about the best of ’em: Continue reading

News: Lucky Charms is Giving Away 10 Boxes of “Marshmallows Only”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ifyDPw984k

(Update: The video above may be gone, but we got one of the 10 boxes! Check it out!)

I can hear him. I can hear the ghost of my 8-year old self speaking to me through the expanse of time:

“Daaaaannn! You have to wiiinnnnn, Dan!” his spectral voice warbles. “All that time I wasted separating the Lucky Charms oats from the marshmallows—I demand restitution!”

But wait a minute, 8-year old Dan. How do you know a word as big as “restitution?”

“Uh, I gotta goooo! The other ghost kids wanna watch Digimon!”

That’s my long-winded backstory on why I feel the need to win General Mills’ latest sweepstakes. After hearing fans’ repeated pleas for a marshmallow only Lucky Charms, they’re finally making those dreams a reality. Well, for 10 people, at least.

With the help of Biz Markie (who also recently helped Cap’n Crunch with a sweepstakes; that guy must love cereal and self-parodies), General Mills wants cereal fans to use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to post photos of themselves with imaginary Marshmallows Only cereal boxes and the hashtag #Lucky10Sweepstakes for entries in the random drawing for 10 boxes of the Marshmallow Only.

It was already possible to buy bags of just marshmallows, but since those aren’t official Lucky Charms marshmallows, it’s just not the saaaammeee, Mom!

Whoops, sorry. I was still stuck in Kid Dan mode there for a second.

And look at how gorgeous the boxes are! (Note also how the nutrition facts are conveniently cropped out. But that’s beside the point.) I can only imagine what magically outrageous prices these would reach on eBay. But who would ever sell theirs?

With this being said, I will be carefully preparing my entries and will post them here as time goes on. General Mills’ full release on the contest can be read here, and the sweepstakes rules can be read here. Just don’t wait too long! The contest ends October 18th.

Good luck(y charms) to all those who also want to enter!

My three humble entries!

News: Cinnamon Toast Crunch Introduces the “Selfie Spoon”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg_K5j7_Bao

Riddle me this:

What’s over 30 inches tall, purple, and watches you eat breakfast?

If you said “that creepy guy in the Grimace costume that crashed on my couch after the McDonald’s Halloween party,” you’d probably be right. But that’s not quite the answer we were looking for today.

Perhaps a better question is:

How many times have you dropped your phone in a bowl of milk after trying to take a selfie with your cereal? It’s okay, you can admit it. Multitasking is hard. And so is cleaning 2% out of your iPhone speakers.

Luckily, the 21st century visionaries at Cinnamon Toast Crunch have a solution. It’s called the Selfie Spoon, and via remote, you can now eat and tweet a picture of you with a mouthful of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, all at the same time!

Visit selfiespoon.com if you want to order your own: the spoon itself is free and the buyer only pays shipping. We here at Cerealously already have ours ordered, so expect some Snap, Crackle, Pop snapshots worthy of Golden Graham Instagram any day now.

I guess now we can be thankful that Wendell disappeared from boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch: can you imagine trying to explain to that old guy what a selfie is?

News: Kellogg’s Unearths Limited Edition Krave, Froot Loops, and Apple Jacks Cereals for Halloween

(EDIT 10/3: My review of Halloween Krave is live! Click here to read it! My review of Halloween Apple Jacks and Froot Loops can be read by clicking here!

It’s all treats and no tricks from Kellogg’s this Halloween season. While General Mills has let their Monster Cereals out of the sarcophagus yet again, and Cap’n Crunch himself is spooking the cereal aisle with Halloween Crunch, the good people at Kellogg’s are firing on all cylinders with three fresh scares of their own.

First up is a jack-o-lantern colored Krave cereal. Unfortunately, the regular cereal shell is merely dyed orange, and there’s no unique pumpkin spice, candy corn, or even sweet potato flavor (okay, maybe that last one was a bit of a stretch). Just the same, milk-guzzling biscuit with that ol’ delicious milk chocolate filling.

I also secretly hoped for yellow dyed filling to mimic the healthy glow of a carved lantern, but this radiant orange is still enough to turn my Hallo-hype meter from “fun-sized” to “king-sized.”

Alongside Krave are new varieties of Froot Loops and Apple Jacks. Both fruity cereals will get marshmallows shaped like the different anatomical sections of a skeleton. This way, you can either build your own full skeleton or simply revel in the cannibalistic joy of chewing on pelvis-shaped sugar bits.

All three cereals come in delightful boxes that paint their respective mascots in dramatized, horror movie-esque styles. The Krave Chocovore is Coming to get you, Barbara, Toucan Sam has spent too long in the Overlook Hotel, and Apple & Cinnamon just stumbled on a house they can easily steal from, since the only person home is Macauley Caulkin. Wait, wrong holiday.

Look for these limited edition boxes in a store near you soon. But don’t wait too long: missing a bowl of these will surely make you howl in disappointment.

News: Limited Edition Pumpkin Puffins Cereal from Barbara’s to Hit Shelves

(Image via Barbara’s official Twitter feed)

Are you “pump”ed for Fall? Well thanks to Barbara’s Puffins cereal line, now you have another reason to be!

Though the dog days of summer are still steadily barking, Barbara’s has just announced that they are releasing a pumpkin-flavored variant of their delightful Puffins cereal. But look out, pumpkin spice latte lovers, because Pumpkin Puffins are bringing the real deal. According to Barbara’s website, they will be “made with real pumpkin and only 5g of sugar.”

It’s too soon to say how the inclusion of actual pumpkin will affect the cereal’s taste. But since I’m a massive puffin puffan, as well as a fan of harvest vegetables in general, I can’t wait to give these a try. Perhaps in a makeshift bowl that I’ve made from a hollowed-out gourd.

For those unfamiliar with Puffins, they are “crunchy oat and corn pillows” that come in flavors like peanut butter, cinnamon, honey rice, and more. Barbara’s also produces several other cereal lines, including Snackimals and Morning Oat Crunch, to name just a couple.

The cereal will be available for a limited time only this Fall. It’s unknown yet what stores will carry Pumpkin Puffins, but they are already available to order on Barbara’s online store. Pumpkin Puffins will join the rare pantheon of pumpkin cereals, which now also includes the elusive Pumpkin Spice Mini-Wheats and Trader Joe’s Pumpkin O’s (which have yet to be confirmed for this year).

Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I need to test the milk retention capabilities of hollowed-out gourds.
