Hocu Pocus 2 cereal- a licensed cereal I believe you call them The Empty Bowl. I enjoyed a bowl of Hocus Pocus 2 cereal while watching Hocus Pocus 2. It was very reminiscent of apple jack’s, although not as “waxy tasting” as I have heard some describe apple jack’s. There was a strong apple (apple jack’s ) scent when opening the bag. There was a strong berry flavored in the beginning as the box describes. They were purple, yellow, and orange stars. They soon give way to the milk and become semi soggy, again much like apple jack’s. If you like apple jack’s then you will like these, if not I say don’t buy them.
We love cereal and made it the focus of our Saturday morning podcast, Back of the Cereal Box on YouTube! We’d love your suggestions for new cereals to try on the show!
I have an idea that would make kids smile. It needs unique funny taste and smells. Along with it can you add a popcorn too? Fart cereal and fart popcorn. For little Jaylon K. Hinrichs. That’s my youngest who just smiles so beautifully. You could make an entire line. It new and fresh!
hi,
i love you’re reviews and podcast 🙂
i recently tried kellogg’s limited edition llama loops. i don’t know if they’re exclusive to where i live, but if you could find them and try them that would be great!!
to me they taste like rip off froot loops but make them cranberry flavoured
love you’re work, and hope you can find the cereal

Hi Dan! Big fan of your work! What are you thoughts on Honey Smacks (and the vastly inferior Honey Crisp)? Honey Smacks were my favorite cereal of all time until they changed the recipe. Still, they are pretty good even with the changes. Although, I would like to know what a true disciple of cereal thinks about this classic cereal
Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of either! Like Krispies and Pebbles, super light and sweet cereals that leave me more hungry after eating rarely make it into my pantry unless there’s a new variant
I would like to see you cover OffLimits. I’m not sure which is more interesting, the flavors or their whole store/gallery/arcade/society of a website. Give it a look, it’s the most millennial thing ever – at a time when everyone says millennials are killing off cereal!
Hey man writing as a podcast fan. What’s the deal with no Black Forest cereal? It’s not a super unfamiliar flavor and definitely can be emulated in cereal. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Compliments Maximum Raisin Bran Avalanche de raisins secs et de son
A raisin count for the ages! ! If one has a desire to strengthen one’s mandible, this may yield positive results. We can thank Compliments for providing in their everlasting wisdom , a swarthy 42% of my personal daily Ferrous. Not only this, but 92% of my daily thiamine, indicating that I may not usually find thiamine from other sources. This leads me to believe that this is a superior food source. For to benefit me with a nutrient such as this! A deliverance!
Sadly the nutritional powerhouse image cannot mask its utter lack of structure within the bran wafers. Conglomerates is the most adherent description of these structures, flakes imply that they were ever a part of a whole! Oh for the days of cinnamon toast crunch.
I must end this by imploring the inquiring and insightful mind to endeavour at their own injury.
I was surprised to see Funco Disney Villans as cereal at, of all places, Spirit Halloween. Not a place I look for cereal, though it is packed with Halloween.
Maleficent, Hades and Ursula. At about $10 a box. Who’d of thought?
I woke up this morning and staggered out to my kitchen because I must eat immediately upon waking up. In the cupboard, I am faced with Fruity Lucky Charms and Honey Nut Cheerios. I opt for the bland and healthy. After smothering them in additional honey, I pour the milk and dunk my spoon. Imagine my horror when the first bite is completely stale. I thought I might cry but I should save that melodrama for a more important loss so I opted instead to (involuntarily) piss my pants from the sheer shock of it all and drop the nutcracker mug I used to hold the disgusting circular pieces.
Do you have any tips for limiting the occurrence of stale cereal and how we can prevent another travesty like this one?
This isn’t a submission but I need to know if anyone else has felt this. Along with Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Crunch Berries (occasionally, he’s on thin fuckin ice), double choco Krave was one of my go-to’s. But, recently, the flavor has changed dramatically for me. Has anyone else noticed the reduction in quality? It’s nearly inedible to me now, and off my list of Good Ones™ for good (onestm)
Just got Peanut Butter Chocolate Blasted Shreds by General Mills. I have a penchant for peanut butter cereals, and this one is AMAZING. It’s surprisingly healthy (good fiber, too) and tastes like Mini Wheats on steroids. Plus, there’s none of that disgusting Mini Wheat milk at the end.
Overall, a very satisfying cereal. If you haven’t gotten it yet, please do soon (and review)!
Keep up the cerealously amazing work. I recently found this site and the podcast, but I’m loving it.
I love your blog and just found out that Kellog’s is launching a new range of Corn Flakes flavored with central components of Indian flavors and culture!! I’m super excited about this bold new venture on Kellog’s part and, as an Indian myself, am definitely planning on ordering some international cereal to try it for myself. If you’ve never had “badam” flavored food before (it’s almond, but on a whole ‘nother level) you should definitely give it a try! Badam milk is something you can typically find at Indian restaurants and it’s really a wonderful beverage so it’s super cool to see it being made in cereal form!
Just thought I’d give submit this, though you probably already knew about this!
Apparently the cereal was made in collaboration with an Indian chef, Ranveer Brar, and I think that’s metal as hell! He talks about evoking this sense of cultural nostalgia through this line of Kellog’s cereal and I, for one, can’t wait to buy a few boxes and give them to my parents – to remind us of home and my grandparents and the warm, sweet comfort food that we grew up with and love to this day!
I am 52 years old and I always have loved honeycomb thank you so much for putting it back to the original flavor I literally stopped buying it for the longest time I’m so glad it’s back thanks again!
Have you tried the Electric Unicorn coffee by Bones Coffee? Its a fruity cereal flavored coffee. If you drink it black its just ok, but as soon as you add some heavy cream it tastes shockingly similar to Fruity Pebbles. Some people would also add sugar, but that depends on how you like coffee. I know sometimes you cover cereal related things, so I thought it was interesting enough to mention.
Love the empty bowl.ive tried a few new cereals just because of it. I got the last box of super cookie toast crunch and loved it. I wasn’t a huge cereal guy til this podcast and I saw today a cinnamon toast called inch churro cereal.any difference then the normal one other then looks.thanks 🙂
Hello! I love Empty Bowl and I’ve enjoyed the various reviews of gluten free cereals you’ve tried. Would you be willing to write a little article/write up/do an Empty Bowl ep on celiac-safe cereals that are worth eating? (I have celiac, a genetic autoimmune disease that means that I’m at 20-parts-per-million-or-less gluten free, and I miss cereal variety.)
This might be something we could pursue in a future podcast segment! Unfortunately, while I know a lot about cereal history, I’m not 100% well-versed in what cereals are gluten free. But if I had to pick two I’m aware of off-hand, Lucky Charms are an undeniable classic and Nature’s Path Crunchy Maple Sunrise is pretty great too. Oh, and I’m a big fan of the Strawberry and Honey Van’s O’s cereals.
Thank you!! I’ve just been eating rice chex and plain cheerios, so I’ll definitely dig into those options 🙂
Thanks for all your hard work. May the roof of your mouth never get ripped to shreds by cereal.
I’m not sure if this counts or if I’m just behind the times with things–
But for an episode of the Empty Bowl you guys should review/talk about 3 Olives Loopy Vodka, it tastes hauntingly like fruit loops. I’m thinking it mixed with some sort of baileys would make a wild cocktail.
Also I’m so glad I found this blog and started listening to the podcast! Keep up the good work~!
Are you a cereal god? I keep seeing posts beseeching you to bring back certain cereals or change the flavor of others. Do you consult with cereal executives?!?! Are YOU a cereal executive?
I won’t buy Honeycomb any longer. The only reason a manufacturer changes their product is to increase profit at the expense of the consumer. If you think this was a good switch then you don’t have a discerning taste. Google ‘honeycomb changed’ and see how many posts and sites there are complaining about.
I really wanted some honey comb. Was looking forward to eating a bowl and to take it to work to snack on. I was so disappointed to find it’s changed to a subpar knock off of the original. Please bring back the original!!
It is almost impossible that Post could have screwed up Honeycomb so badly that I am now posting on a Cereal blog to tell the very small world of cereal bloggers how completely awful the new version. I loved Honeycomb— now I’d rather eat a bowl of cold pinto beans.
I grew up eating Honey Combs Now the flavor color and texture has changed . I no longer like them is there a way you could go bacck to the old flavor .
I just want to say that I liked the way the Honeycomb cereal tasted before. Why fix it if it ain’t broke? I think the new “bigger” taste makes them taste stale to me. I was so disappointed after I bought 2 boxes of the new “bigger” tasting Honeycomb cereal and had a bowl full ready to eat but after just the first bite, I was let down. Please leave the cereal the way it was. It tasted better, or at least to me, the new taste makes them have a stale texture or consistency.
Hi, I’ve been a fan of your website for a long time – breakfast foods are my favourite type of food but because of my OCD and anxiety I struggle try new things without knowing exactly what they are like! Your reviews are always so in depth, which is so helpful 🙂
I especially like the pop tart reviews, since you try them frozen/hot/room temp!
Which pop tarts do you think are best frozen or room temp, if you don’t mind answering?
Thanks for the inspiring comment! Glad to have you as a reader, especially since I’ve struggled with OCD and anxiety, as well, in different forms. As for your Pop-Tart question: that’s a good one! I love all Pop-Tarts so much, that it’s tough to choose, but I’d say (assuming I can only pick currently existing flavors):
Room temperature: Cookies & Creme (with Chocolate Fudge & Chocolate Chip as runners-up)
Frozen: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, for sure
OMG! Pretty soon I’ll have nothing to remember from my childhood. This new Honey Comb cereal is horrible. It taste like a dollar store knock off cereal of some sort as has the quality of such. POST, I am becoming very dissappointed with you. First, Alpha bits changed. Then Golden Crisp got weird. Fruity Pebbles is like chewing wax and now this. My predictions…..sales will decrease and these product lines will no longer be anchors of the business. Please give it a rest. With cereal, marketing is the key and winning each generation is the key to profitability. Not changing recipies.
-Mfg. Eng. Cerealologist
I agree! I’ve started buying other brands rather than Post because it seems like they’re changing too much. Post cereal is delicious the way it is. That’s what we fell in love with so why change it?
Post has also messed up the alphabits cereal, are they trying to go out of business? I bought two boxes of alphabits cereal. I got home and fixed me a bowl and i knew immediately that something was wrong. I put the bowl down and went to look at the box, and it said new alphabits. If they don’t change it back, i will not buy any more alphabits cereal. Whoever thought of changing it should be threw out with the cereal.
Yes I’m seriously mad about this. Alpha Bits and Honey Comb WERE my favorite Cereals. I eat cereal all the time not just for breakfast. But my two very favorites are junk. I won”t even buy them anymore. Or any Post cereal. They went from being my most liked company due to their great cereals to I won’t even consider buying them. Stupid!!! Penny pinching bottom Dollar idealists. Now we have no ALPHA BITS!! GO BACK!!
Home Run Crunch is back. I either never paid attention or they never had it here before but I found it at Safeway and Walmart yesterday and scooped up 5 boxes. I am on my last three boxes of Halloween Crunch so this will fill the void.
I have Post Raisin Bran for breakfast practically every morning. I add walnuts, blueberries and unsweetened almond milf. On the side I drink about 4 ounces of carrot juice. I think the breakfast is nutrionally balanced. The protein from the walnuts helps me avoid the mid morning crash I often have when I eat cereal alone. I eat Post Raisin Bran exclusively because the raisins are always soft and prevents tooth cracking. Other brans would occasionally have a Raisin so hard I could not soften in the milk and resulted in a broken tooth.
Probably Cinnamon Toast Crunch (boring answer) since I’ve been eating it for 20+ years. But there might be a few defunct cereals I’d give it up for (including what Apple Jacks used to taste like when I was a kid).
Hey, I’m very excited about this site as an ABSOLUTE Defcon 5 cereal junkie.
I only really only follow one other food blog on a daily basis but this will now be added.
Really looking forward to it. Well done good sir!!
Thanks a (Honey) bunch (of Oats), Marc! Glad to hear you’ll be reading. Be sure to let us know if you have any ideas, as the site is still young (and always young at heart)!
I too agree that the new taste of Honeycomb is awful! The texture is different, the colour looks fake and the taste is not as sweet. This is the last box I buy too and what is left might be used to feed the dogs. Post, you messed up, don’t mess with a good thing!
This new honeycomb change is really a bad deal. it is terrible. If i wanted a bad store brand knock off i would just save the money and buy it. What a stupid decision to change a great thing. We are looking for something else. Thanks alot you bunch of idiots.
Been eating this since early 70’s. I have not had in a while but new size, shape and taste is lame. Just another unnecessary change made by a novice corporate staff that has no knowledge of good things past. Its not high tech man, no need to “upgrade”
I am the adult who is still a kid. I have been eating honey comb for about 45 years and the new flavor is the worst. I had to throw out 3 boxes I just bought because I can’t eat this cardboard flavor cereal. Such a bad decision…whoever changed this has no idea how bad it is. Yep…sounds crazy but I am adult who is unhappy, and now will not eat a favorite food after 45 years of enjoying it. If someone knows why this was done please let me know.
I Want A Heath Cereal based on the chocolate bar

Do you need a photo of the NEW Cheerios Honey Vanilla that is available at Safeway? Where is your top-notch review?
I have it—just haven’t written up my thoughts yet!
Kids Love marshmallows in cereal you can try to do an all marshmallow ceral and make it healthy kids will love that!
In 1985 Lucky the lepricon was left hanginng because of the mixed up marshmellows.

Will miss Purple Maize cereal VERY much!!!! Is it no longer available anywhere?
Whats going on with Post Fruity Pebbles with Marshmallows? They are OUT OF STOCK!!!!! Everyplace you looooook.
I need a Captain Crunch FREEDOM CRUNCH box … Can anyone please help me?

The change sucks
I won’t buy Honeycomb any longer. The only reason a manufacturer changes their product is to increase profit at the expense of the consumer. If you think this was a good switch then you don’t have a discerning taste. Google ‘honeycomb changed’ and see how many posts and sites there are complaining about.
The nutter butters cereal is the shit
I really wanted some honey comb. Was looking forward to eating a bowl and to take it to work to snack on. I was so disappointed to find it’s changed to a subpar knock off of the original. Please bring back the original!!
It is almost impossible that Post could have screwed up Honeycomb so badly that I am now posting on a Cereal blog to tell the very small world of cereal bloggers how completely awful the new version. I loved Honeycomb— now I’d rather eat a bowl of cold pinto beans.

Hey Saffron,
Thanks for the inspiring comment!
I’d love for you to review honey graham oh’s
I’ll add it to the list 🙂

Does anyone know where to buy Kelloggs To Go breakfast mix? I love the cinnamon roasted candied pecan, and can’t find it anywhere. I live in TX.
Quaker is doing a new oatmeal flavors contest! You should review all three included in the box!

CTD Sports has created popular cereal flavored protein powder! They are quite delicious! https://www.ctdsports.com/isolicious.html
Interesting. I’ve never been into protein powder, but this might be worth looking into. Thanks Kathleen!
The new honey comb is terrible! Why did they change the recipe. I have been eating this cereal since I was a little girl. Very disappointed!
I totally agree!! This will be the last box I buy, so sad!
I too agree that the new taste of Honeycomb is awful! The texture is different, the colour looks fake and the taste is not as sweet. This is the last box I buy too and what is left might be used to feed the dogs. Post, you messed up, don’t mess with a good thing!
I agree – very disappointed. Been buying for years and won’t buy again!!! The kids wouldn’t even eat it. Please go back to the original recipe!!!
